Maths ICASS Calculator

Enter your Maths task marks and we will instantly calculate your ICASS score and whether you qualify for the final exam.

All marks are entered out of 100 the calculator weights each task automatically. The Maths / Maths Literacy sub-minimum is 30%. Ask your lecturer to convert if a task was marked out of a different total.

How the Maths ICASS mark is built

Mathematics and Mathematical Literacy are fundamental subjects, which means they carry seven formal ICASS tasks across the year and finish with an internal trial examination. A common weighting splits the marks across several tests and a project before the trial, with the trial carrying the largest single share. Because each task is weighted differently, a strong mark in a small task does not count as much as a strong mark in the trial, so plan your effort accordingly.

The 30% sub-minimum

Maths and Maths Literacy have the lowest ICASS sub-minimum of all subjects at 30%. This recognises that mathematics is challenging, but do not let the lower threshold make you complacent: you still need to reach 30% in the external exam as well, and a weak ICASS mark leaves you with almost no buffer if the exam goes badly.

Common mistakes to avoid

Three things cost Maths students marks every year. First, skipping a task and assuming the others will carry them every weighted task counts, and a zero is very hard to recover from. Second, treating the trial exam casually when it is the heaviest task. Third, not checking the totals: if a test was marked out of 50 or 75, convert it to a percentage before entering it here, or your estimate will be wrong.

How to use this calculator

Enter each task mark out of 100. If a task was marked out of a different total, divide your mark by the total and multiply by 100 first. Press calculate and you will see your weighted ICASS percentage and whether you have cleared the 30% sub-minimum. Use it after each task to track whether you are on course.
