The basics every NC(V) student should know, based on the official 2026 DHET ICASS Guidelines.
What is ICASS?
ICASS stands for Internal Continuous Assessment. It is the work you do during the year tests, assignments, projects and practical tasks that your college marks. It is not one big exam. Both you and your lecturer use it to see how you are doing and whether you need extra help.
Why it matters
ICASS is a compulsory part of your result. To get a full subject result you need:
- Fundamental subjects (Languages, Life Skills, Maths): ICASS + the final Exam.
- Vocational subjects: ICASS + ISAT + the final Exam.
If even one of these is missing, you get an incomplete result for that subject so your ICASS tasks really count.
The marks you need to pass (sub-minimums)
| Subject type | Minimum mark needed |
|---|---|
| Vocational subjects | 50% |
| Languages, Life Skills & Computer Literacy | 40% |
| Mathematics / Mathematical Literacy | 30% |
